The Tomato Project Field Day 2016

September 10, 2016

TheTomatoProject

The Tomato Project Field Day is scheduled for September 10, 2016
An event you won't want to miss!

LOGOSA joint effort by International Ag Labs and Fix My Soil

"What is a nutrient-dense tomato?" is the surprising question that International Ag Labs and Fix My Soil are working together to answer in their joint venture, "The Tomato Project" (http://www.thetomatoproject.net). Because no nutrient density standard exists for fruits and vegetables, consumers are unwittingly in the dark about arguably the most important variable affecting quality. The project is currently testing a variety of fertility methods to determine how to maximize the taste, nutrition and yield of tomatoes.

The Tomato Project is a great example of citizen science in action. We plan to share our results with the community as part of encouraging smarter, better agriculture. Everyone from backyard gardeners to large-scale commercial greenhouse growers will benefit from this unique experiment.

To acquaint the public with the Tomato Project and its findings, a field day is scheduled for Saturday, September 10. The event will consist of a teaching session with soil fertility expert Jon C. Frank and a tour of the plot. Commercial growers, backyard gardeners and journalists are all encouraged to come and enjoy the fruit of this ambitious project.

REGISTRATION CLOSED

Highlights:
Teaching by Jon Frank
Opportunity to meet Lynn Hoag
Brix testing and taste testing
Tour of the plot

Featuring:
7 rows with different fertility combinations
3 rows utilizing the Ellen White Tree Planting Method
10 different varieties replicated across each row (2 Hybrid - 8 Heirloom)
Nutrient testing to show which methods and varieties pick up the most minerals

We intend to show how to increase the fruit density in a fixed space utilizing a new and extreme HORIZONTAL trellising system! Valuable to greenhouse growers or home gardeners with limited space.

Come join us for an exciting day of teaching, great food, fresh tomato tasting and an onsite tour of the Tomato Project!
